But I Can’t Touch My Toes!

June 27, 2019

Let’s talk about your HAMSTRINGS!

Your hamstrings are actually made up of a group of 3 different muscles that run up the back of you leg. They are involved in many of our daily activities, such as walking, running, and jumping. And they keep us from falling forward every step we take.

Over time, tight hamstrings make it hard to do simple tasks like touching your toes or tying your shoes . Tight hamstrings are also one of the leading causes of lower back pain, because they cause the hips and pelvis to rotate back, which flattens your lower back.

So how to we brings some length back theses babies?

First, understand that it won’t happen overnight!

The pose above is Gorilla and it is one of my favorites. Fold forward, hinging at the hip, and insert your hands under your feet.

Can’t reach? Look closer…neither can I unless bend my knees…because my hammies are tight too!

You can also do this from sitting or lying on our back one leg at a time. I use a strap or a towel under the sole of my foot to deepen the stretch. How ever you stretch, hold the stretch for at least 30 seconds. Every time you breathe in, straighten your legs a tiny bit more, and every exhalation try relax into the stretch.
