Tis the Season for Prehab!

November 12, 2019

Last week I shared with you my thoughts on the “Off-Season”

Missed it? No worries! Read it here

Pre-Season is a great time to do a little prehab work, so hopefully you won’t need to sit out your race season spending time in rehab!

Let’s start with the Core!

Your core is way more than your “six-pack”. It is 360 degrees and includes everything from the hips to the shoulders. A strong core will improve your posture, your strength, and your stamina.

So I challenge you to start strengthen your core! Here are 3 of my favorite exercises to get you started.

Bird Dog is a great way to encorporate balance with core stability. It’s not about how high you can get your arm and leg, but how much length you can create with minimal movement in your torso.

Not only are Marching Planks great for your shoulders and abs, but by engaging your glutes, they teach you how to fire up the muscles needed to create more power when we run and cycle. To make this more challenging, put your forearms on a stability ball.

The Sit-out uses more obiques and is way more fun than bicycle crunches. Focus on pressing through your hand and keeping hips from sagging. Hand can reach for opposite knee, or for a more advanced option extend your leg and reach for your toes!
